Manual Mockup

Manual Manufacturing

Pilot Study

Students: Kyle Steinfeld (G), Will Lark (G)

Year: 2002

Machines: Band Saw

Materials: Masonite

This was one of the first projects in the group helping us understand the meaning of precision. Our goal was fabrication of a complex surface using manual tools for cutting material stock and manual tools for component assembly. We started with a CAD model that was developed from 3D to 2D for printing on paper. Drawings were used as templates glued to MDF material stock after cut by hand on a table or band saw. Through this project we gained a real world understanding of error in manufacturing and how much errors elevate production time and cost.
